Fondazione IU Rusconi Ghigi was born in 2024 from the union of three Bolognese entities: Fondazione Pietro Giacomo Rusconi, dedicated to the promotion of culture and the enhancement of the historical-artistic heritage of Bologna; Fondazione Villa Ghigi, always committed to the management of green areas and environmental education, and Fondazione Innovazione Urbana, a place of innovation in participation and urban planning processes.
Three realities represent many central aspects of the city’s identity:
- the university area, with its complexity, richness and at the same time its contradictions – the main focus of the Fondazione IU’s activities,, founded in 1927 as a moral entity to pursue civic, solidarity and social utility purposes;
- the green heritage, with the Villa Ghigi Park, located at a short distance from the city center, opened to citizens in 1974;
- finally the urban landscape, a place of innovation and transformations that the present requires to face common challenges, a space for relationships, listening and participation for a shared and co-designed change.
The new Fondazione IU Rusconi Ghigi represents a decisive step to integrate skills, resources and experiences, to respond in a more effective and coordinated way to the needs of the city and the territory.
Our roots are in Bologna and are embedded in the city’s neighborhoods and in the hills. From here our relationships branch out to other Italian and European cities, with the aim of nurturing a rich network of alliances.
